Competitions

Mix & Match SHOWDOWN (Saturday)

  • This is the main event! Directly inspired by partnered dance battle competitions in Canada and Europe, the Showdown is a tournament style Mix & Match competition with capped heat sizes, so you can dance your best without worrying if the judges can see you.
  • Participants will be only judged in the specific dance role registered for the competition (lead or follow).
  • Quarter Finals – Three heats, twelve couples per heat.. The top sixteen leads and follows advance.
  • Semi Finals – Two heats, eight couples per heat. The top eight leads and follows advance.
  • Finals – Eight couples, one winner! This round takes place at the Saturday evening dance, with music by the Angelique Francis Band!
  • There is a limit of 36 leads and 36 follows that can register for this competition.

Strictly Blues – Newcomer (Friday)

  • Improvised blues dancing.
  • Competitors register as a couple.
  • Music will be chosen by the event. Finals will be to live music.
  • Participants should be new to dance competitions or have never placed before in any competition finals.
  • Judging is based on: 25% connection and partnership, 25% blues vocabulary and technique,  25% musicality and styling, 25% blues aesthetic.

Strictly Blues – Open (Friday)

  • Improvised blues dancing.
  • Competitors register as a couple.
  • Music will be chosen by the event. Finals will be to live music.
  • Participants may be paid members of a performing or teaching organization and/or have placed before in a blues competition.
  • Judging is based on: 25% connection and partnership, 25% blues vocabulary and technique,  25% musicality and styling, 25% blues aesthetic.

Solo Blues (Sunday)

  • Competitors register individually.
  • Prelims consist of three songs in all-skate format.
  • There will be 4 dancers chosen for the finals and 2 alternates.
  • Participants may be paid members of a performing or teaching organization and/or have previously placed in a solo blues competition.
  • Judging is based on: blues aesthetic, respect of tempo, styling and originality of movement, and performance.
